Aztecs Juniors B 1-4 Burwell Swallows

6th Oct 2007

MINI LEAGUE U10 KNOCKOUT CUP ROUND 1

The first outing in a cup competition for the boys today. Swallows started quiet that normal, and seemed to be a bit scared of their opponents. This only seemed to last for around 5mins, and then Swallows began to take hold of the game. Jack Carter and Ben Frost began to push forward down the wings, with Colby working very hard in the attack, putting pressure onto a good Aztecs keeper. Charlie Casey-Brown, starting as captain this week, began to get more involved and also began to push forward. Once we had settled the opening goal soon came. A good team attack once more lead to Colby stabbing the ball home from close range.

After 15mins Swallows began to make some changes, Josh Lynn on for Ben on the left and Matthew Howard on for Charlie, Colby switched to central midfield and Matthew went up front. This did not change the balance of play, Swallows kept pressing for a second, and after 20mins the goal came another true striker’s goal from Colby, stabbing the ball home from close range, after a spill from the keeper.

Half time Swallows 2-Aztecs 0

The second half started much as the first, with both teams pressing for a goal, Sean was immense at the back today, and not much got past him, when Aztec did manage to get the ball into the box, Ed Tapper was always comfortable making the required stops. After 10mins of the second half Swallows broke into the Aztecs half , Josh found Colby through the middle, Colby sent in s shot that was partially cleared by the defense, but Matthew Howard was on hand to bury the ball into the center of the goal from the edge of the box. 3-0 Swallows, we looked to be cruising to a cricket scoreline, but credit is due to the Aztec keeper, who seemed to have superglue on his gloves, as the ball somehow managed to stick to them on every shot. Then Swallows conceded after a lapse of concentration, a good goal scored, which Ed Tapper could not do much about.

Swallows never gave up and made a triple substitution, bringing on Henry, Jack and Ben. This seemed to do the trick, as Swallows piled on the pressure, the defence conceded a corner, Jack Carter floated an excellent corner over, and Henry read the flight of the ball well and side footed in a volley from 2yards, which the keeper could do nothing about.

Great performance today guys, another team effort well done all.

Man of the Match: Sean Woodroofe, the rock of our side today. Well deserved Sean keep it up.

On we go to the next round against Histon Hornets 17th November KO TBA.
