This was always going to be a hard fixture for Swallows. Against a strong and well organised Waterbeach team. However Swallows matched their opponents, having much of the play.
Swallows took the game to Waterbeach, with superb link up play from Jack Carter, Ben Frost and Colby Williams. Ben and Jack using the width well, Colby held the ball up and always looked to pass wide to his team mates, then turned and looked for the return. Waterbeach did not have much of an answer to this, all we lacked was the killer finish in the box and we could have been 3up inside 15 mins.
The first half was end to end after both teams had settled down, Sean and Henry were kept very busy in defence, as Waterbeach switched their formation to try and counter Swallows 4 man attack. Josh Lynn on his first start for Swallows began to get more into the game during the first period, finding some good through balls for Colby, Ben and Jack. The hot weather along with the fast paced game began to take its toll. Swallows forced to make a change bringing on Charlie Casey-Brown for Ben Frost. Charllie slotted straight in and make some good runs forward. Josh made way for Jack Chaimbo for the final fifteen of the first period, Jack found his passing game and played in Charlie and Jack on several occasions.
It was Swallows that finally made the break through, Henry came forward with the ball from defence, and let fly from just inside his own half, a fortuitous header from the waterbeach defender sent the ball into the top corner. 1-0 Swallows. Five mins later Henry came forward again, this time he was closer to the goal and once again let fly, Colby tried to steer the ball into the goal, but this time is went just wide. Half time game intime to give both sides a well earned rest.
This started much the same as the first with both sides pushing forward, Ed Tapper was busyer in this half make sone great saves and clearing some dangerous corners. On the times Waterbeach did get a shot away from a corner, Henry and Ben made excellent goal line clearances to keep Swallows in front. Swallows pushing for a second began to leave themselves exposed at the back, only for Sean to keep the attack at bay. Waterbeach did manage to get through Swallows and on this occassion Sean and Ed could do nothing about this, a excellent struck goal. Both siides kept on the pressure looking for the winner, Jack and Josh going close. Charlie came back on for Colby who got a well deserved round of appluase from the supporters. Both teams bagan to tire. The final whistle came, the draw a fair result.
